Former skipper Marvan Atapattu has been recalled to the Sri Lanka Test squad for the first time since December 2005 for the home series against Bangladesh.
The decision to rest Jayasuriya - who will cover for Muralitharan at Lancashire - from the Tests meant the selectors could bring back Atapattu.
The Test series starts on 25 June in Colombo.
