Road to Burma

Bangladesh and Myanmar have signed a deal to build a road, the first of its kind, between the two countries.Construction of the 25km highway, joining Bangladesh's Maricha region to Bawlibazar in Myanmar will begin later this year, officials said on Friday. Most of the road will be inside Myanmar with only two kilometres in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh will meet the estimated $21.75m cost for constructing the road, expected to be completed in three years, they said. Major-General Saw Tun, Myanmar's minister for construction, told reporters in Dhaka: "We hope to continue our project to connect the Asian highway to go up to China, Thailand and India."
