Cyclone-hit Bangladesh has appealed for a billion dollars in aid-to-rebuild devastated coastal communities and protect itself from what it says are increased disasters due to climate change.
The head of the country's emergency government, Fakhruddin Ahmed, told donors in a meeting late Monday that at least eight-million people living along the southwestern coast were now facing the "bleak prospect of destitution."
"We need to look at these catastrophes in the light of the global phenomenon of climate change," Ahmed said.
