DHAKA, Bangladesh: A Bangladeshi court ordered two politicians, a businessman and a top forestry official to be detained for questioning Wednesday, a day after they were arrested amid the military-backed interim government's anti-corruption drive, a domestic news agency said.
Magistrate Mamoon Al Rashid allowed police to keep in custody former Health Minister Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim for three days, businessman Abdul Awal Mintoo for four days, and chief forest conservator M. Osman Gani for a week, the United News of Bangladesh said.
Mayor Mujibur Rahman Sarwar of southern Barisal city, meanwhile, was ordered to be detained for a month while allegations against him are investigated, the news agency added.
